Ode to Lacan:

Early one summer morning, I found myself in Dumbo, a neighbourhood in Brooklyn, characterized by it’s antique waterfronts and industrial warehouses. Contemplating the emptied out cobblestone streets, outsize graffiti monuments, barbed wire fences, a stray remark made by French psychoanalyst and post-structuralist thinker, Jacques Lacan, floated into my consciousness: “the image that best sums up the Unconscious, is Baltimore in the early morning.”

Suddenly it made sense, clearly he was referring to Dumbo.

Number five in an ongoing series of pieced together “snapshots” that double as a sort self-portraiture.

The series ‘Instantanés pays homage to the collection of short fiction of the same name by French writer and film maker, Alain Robbe-Grillet.

‘Le gibet’ from “Gaspard de la Nuit” by Maurice Ravel performed by Alexandre Tharaud.
